Joseph J. Vicari, MD, MBA, FASGE, joined Rockford Gastroenterology Associates, Ltd. in 1997 and has held a faculty appointment at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford since that time. He currently holds the academic rank of Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford. Dr. Vicari is now Managing Partner of Rockford Gastroenterology Associates, Ltd. He is Board Certified in Gastroenterology. He currently serves on the Practice Management Committee of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and is a journal reviewer for the American Journal of Gastroenterology. Dr. Vicari attended medical school at Creighton University where he received the Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching for 3 consecutive years. He completed his residency and chief residency in Internal Medicine at Creighton University and also completed his GI Fellowship in gastroenterology at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation where he became Chief Fellow in Gastroenterology from 1996-1997. While completing his fellowship his interests were in esophageal and liver diseases. Dr. Vicari has presented numerous lectures and presentations to students, and residents and physicians both locally and nationally.
Jill Olmstead, MSN, ANP-BC, CCS-P, FAANP, is an Adult Nurse Practitioner at Providence St. Joseph Health. She has practiced as an NP for over 15 years specializing in gastroenterology. Her practice includes evaluating and managing new patient GI consultations, follow-up visits and diagnostic Flexible sigmoidoscopies. She developed a passion for understanding the language of coding and became credentialed as a certified coder, a clinical documentation improvement specialist and risk adjustment coder. This led to developing the role of a Provider Liaison in Revenue Cycle which included assisting with organizational implementation of ICD-10CM and CPT/ICD-10CM coding education for multi-specialist providers. She was recently appointed to the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) Reimbursement Committee. She was also appointed by the American Medical Association (AMA) Board of Trustees to represent the American Nurses Association as an alternate AMA HCPAC Advisor for the CPT Editorial panel. Jill recently became inducted as a Fellow in the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. She graduated from California State University in Long Beach in 1997 with a Master’s of Science degree in Nursing and from Alfred University in New York in 1982 with her BSN. She has been published in Gastroenterology Nursing, the Journal for the American Academy for Nurse Practitioners and the Journal for Nurse Practitioners. She is a new column editor for specializing in coding and billing topics for The Nurse Practitioner journal. She received the 2012 Nurse Practitioner Distinction of the Year Award from the California Association for Nurse Practitioners. Jill is a Past President of the California Association for Nurse Practitioners, Past President for the American College of Nurse Practitioners and Past President of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners Scholarships and Grant Foundation.
